Divorce – Celebrity Style

Celebrity DivorceA new year has barely begun but celebrities are busy at work. Unfortunately, some of them are working on divorce papers. There is plenty of recent divorce news to report despite coming off an otherwise festive holiday season. Some celebrities are brushing up on changes to divorce rules/laws rather than ringing in the new year with loved ones, making this a very difficult time for them.

Real Housewives Divorce

Arguably the most-discussed celebrity divorce in recent weeks is that of former Real Housewives of New York star and Skinnygirl Cocktails mogul Bethenny Frankel and real estate entrepreneur Jason Hoppy. Bethenny has an estimated net worth of between $25 and $55 million and is requesting primary custody of their two-year-old daughter Bryn. TMZ reports that she has also filed legal documents requesting child support, health expenses for Bryn and herself, and life insurance with both she and Bryn listed as beneficiaries.

Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn recently finalized her divorce from former coach Thomas Vonn. Married in 2007, the couple did not have any children but did hold some impressive assets. Fortunately, Lindsey purchased her Park City, Utah, home prior to getting married so she will keep this nice property. This 28-year-old will be spending 2012 in it as a newly single woman.

Wes Scantlin, the lead singer of Puddle of Mudd, also finalized his divorce this week, ending his marriage to his wife of three-plus years. However, this celebrity divorce has not fully played out because Wes still must attend a hearing to determine division of property and spousal support. Now-ex-spouse Jessica asked the court to toss out the prenuptial agreement the couple had but withdrew this request after coming to a financial agreement with Wes.

After a bitter battle, astronaut Buzz Aldrin is officially divorced from third wife, Lois Driggs Cannon. Reports indicate that according to the divorce order, wife of 23 years Lois receives approximately half of his impressive fortune including half of the profits from stocks, trademarks, and businesses held by Buzz. The astronaut owns the trademark to the design “Astronaut with Flag,” a familiar image to many Americans.

NFL player Jeremy Shockey included himself in recent divorce news by filing for divorce after only eight months of marriage. Jeremy filed divorce documents late last year, indicated that his marriage was “irretrievably broken.” These documents indicated that Jeremy and Daniela Cortazar-Shockey had a prenuptial agreement that prevents Daniela from getting any of his property or receiving any financial support.
